Bihar Foundation hosts Oscars nominated "Champaran Mutton" movie screening at Bihar Sadan, unveils "Bihar Se…" restaurant facelift
"Champaran Mutton" movie star cast attend special movie screening in New Delhi, October 27, 2023
Bihar Foundation, in collaboration with NDFF (New Delhi Film Foundation) and Bihar Se... by The Panache, celebrated an evening of art, culture, and cinematic excellence, as they hosted a special screening of "Champaran Mutton", a short film nominated in semi-finals of Student Oscar Awards, along with the facelift of its ethnic cuisine restaurant. The event took place at Bihar Sadan in Dwarka, New Delhi, on October 27, 2023.
This event was attended by eminent dignitaries, distinguished guests, and the makers of the film, Falak Khan (lead actress) and director Ranjan Kumar. During the screening, Shri Kundan Kumar, Resident Commissioner cum Investment Commissioner and CEO of Bihar Foundation, informed the gathering that the event is to build brand Bihar, to catalyse the diaspora for branding Bihar and to inform people about the potential our state has to offer. He said that, he is looking forward to collaborate with different industries and businesses through such events to foster economic growth and prosperity for both our industries and our beloved state.
Speaking about the significance of the event, Shri Kundan Kumar, Resident Commissioner of Bihar, said, "This evening was not just about cinema; it was a celebration of Bihar's cultural vibrancy and its contribution to the world of art. The state of Bihar has a rich history and has made substantial contributions to Indian cinema. It is heartening to see Bihar Foundation and NDFF coming together to promote and celebrate this creative spirit."
Shri Tripurari Sharan, the Information Commissioner of Bihar and former Chief Secretary of the state, commended the remarkable efforts of the Bihar Foundation and expressed his well wishes for their future endeavors. Sharan also took the opportunity to applaud the dedicated officers from the Bihar cadre for their relentless commitment to the betterment of the state.
Chandan Roy, lead actor in "Champaran Mutton," could not attend the event due to busy schedule but shared his wishes and said, "I am truly honored to be a part of the movie. 'Champaran Mutton' is a story close to my heart, and I am delighted to see it being celebrated on such a prestigious platform. This event has showcased Bihar's growing influence in the world of cinema."
Falak Khan, the co-star of the film, said, "Bihar is a land of diverse talents, and events like these highlight the unique stories and voices that emerge from this region. I hope 'Champaran Mutton' continues to inspire many more."
A student from Bihar, Ranjan Kumar, studying direction at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, has made the movie. Interestingly, it was his final year project and he decided to craft a story centered around Champaran mutton. Although Ranjan initially made this film with the aim of obtaining good grades, FTII showcased the film at various film festivals, where the story received great appreciation. Subsequently, it was submitted for the Oscars and was selected for the semifinal round. Moreover, it was also chosen from among 2,360 films from 95 countries for the 22nd International Student and Video Festival in Beijing. Now, 40 judges have reviewed 77 outstanding works, including the film 'Champaran Mutton.' This film will be screened at the festival in Beijing from November 17 to 24.
Talking about the movie, it was made against the backdrop of the lockdown, during which many people lost their jobs. The film tells the story of a common family's relationships and struggles. An attempt has been made to weave the film based on fundamental principles. The film uses the Bajjika language. It was shot in 9 days and incurred a total cost of 2,76,000 rupees to make.
Following the movie screening, a panel discussion on the 'Role of cinema in building brand Bihar' took place, where renowned personalities from the film industry, shared their insights and experiences. In yet another major highlight from the event, Bihar Se... by The Panache was unveiled with a facelift, offering a unique ambience for fine dining and gatherings. The restaurant offers an exquisite menu featuring an array of Bihari delicacies, promising a tasteful delight for all its patrons.
The evening was concluded with a dinner hosted at "Bihar Se... by The Panache" restaurant, providing an opportunity for all the attendees to network and indulge in the flavors of Bihar.
